IFS Higher Level
We provide our customers with safe food products for daily use. As food safety and quality
are our top priorities, we make use of external parties who conduct strict and unexpected
quality checks according to the International Food Standard (IFS). This standard sets the
highest norms for hygiene, food safety and quality.
We are proud to annually be awarded with the IFS Higher Level certificate: proof that SMITS
meets the IFS standard. This means we can ensure our customers of high-quality food-safe
products.
The IFS standard concerns a set of requirements that our company is obliged to meet to
receive the IFS-certificate. The testing includes a thorough investigation regarding SMITS’
company management, checks we perform with our suppliers, which cleaning products are
used and how SMITS keeps track of their products, e.g., which onions come from which
grower, and how/where they are packed. In short: a continuous, effective process of clear
communication, hazard analysis, in-house checks, risk assessment and data collection.
“We document everything,” says plant and quality manager Lonneke Bomers. “We check and
report on every cargo. This gives us access to enormous amounts of data from our farmers,
and insight into their products’ quality and performance. Because of SMITS' rapid expansion,
and the amount of data accompanying this, we reap the benefits of our digitization process
every day.”
